img To all our esteemed delegates,
The Sarawak Convention Bureau is delighted to welcome delegates of the 14th ASEAN ORL Head & Neck Congress 2011 to Kuching city, Sarawak, "Land of the Hornbills"! On behalf of the Sarawak State Government, I would like to thank you for allowing us to share with you, our world of hidden treasures in Sarawak, on the exotic island of Borneo.

In the eyes of the State, the 14th ASEAN ORL Head & Neck Congress is a prestigious event and a cause to celebrate. It allows us to showcase our brand new facilities for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions in the shape of the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching complemented by its international class amenities, five-star food and service standards.

Moreover, your participation creates an excellent basis for knowledge-transfer to take place in Malaysia. Tremendous investment by the State Government has been made in order to attract conferences such as this. The staging of the premier Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) event for ENT doctors of ASEAN countries will enhance the level of ENT medical services in Sarawak and create awareness of the importance of this specialised branch of medicine, especially in rural areas.

We hope you will take some time to experience some of our fabulous excursions during your time here. Sarawak is one of the world's greatest "adventure" capitals in the heart of among the world's oldest tropical rainforests on the romantic island of Borneo.

The capital city of Kuching offers a combination of old-world culture and new-world modern infrastructure. Kuching deliberately retained much of its colonial charm even throughout rapid development. Sarawak's "White Rajahs" left their historical legacy here through the magnificent colonial buildings established hundreds of years ago. More than 28 ethnic groups each with their own language and culture have created a wealth of resources in unique arts, crafts and heritage sites. At the city fringes, there are national parks, beaches, mountains, rivers, and some of the world's largest wildlife and rainforest reserves.

You may wish to see just a few highlighted attractions. We invite you to take part in the amazing experience of caring for Orang-utans at the Semenggoh Orang-utan Nature Reserve, a rehabilitation centre for ill or orphaned Orang-utans. If culture excites you, pay a visit to the world- famous Sarawak Cultural Village, a "living museum" that will transport you to a time of head-hunters, warriors and ancient village communities. And to find some of the most beautiful views in the world go 1,000 metres above sea-level to the mountain ranges of Borneo Highlands, one of the best spa and golf resorts in Malaysia.

Sarawak is already developing an excellent track record of hosting world-class events and I have no doubt that as delegates, you will have a memorable experience. We are honoured to extend our special Sarawak-style of hospitality to you.

DATO' SRI DR MUHAMMAD LEO MICHAEL TOYAD
Chairman, Sarawak Convention Bureau
